I haven’t looked for travel insurance before, I am wiser now! There are policies for just about everything you could want. There is trip cancellation, and trip interruption, ( if you miss a connection) trip delay, bag delay, medical policies, 24/7 person available to help you with rebooking hotels, and the lost luggage. If you are traveling overseas more than once a year, there is a multi trip insurance, which would cover all of your trips. ! You can design your own package, depending on what you want to carry. The cost of insurance is about 3-5% of the cost of your trip.
I found cruises; tours and house rentals are all something I can insure. Consider medical coverage when you are traveling to another country. Make sure that you understand the coverage. Does it cover your return, and emergency transport out of the area?
It was easier to compare insurance when I looked at sites that had multiple insurance companies I could compare. I put in data, ages of travelers, cost of the trip, domestic or international travel. I can purchase hurricane insurance that would cover my trip if the resort is closed due to damage and there is no comparable resort available or there is airport damage….but I wouldn’t be covered if I wanted to cancel because I was worried it might interrupt my trip.
Companies I looked at all had a toll free number if I wanted to talk with an agent. The most important fact I discovered is that you need to book your insurance within a time frame of when you first paid for the trip. You can maximize your benefits this way. This varies with the carrier. Usually 21 days.
My son is 26 and is going to the Caribbean in a few months. He is healthy. He has never considered insurance. We talked about it and now we know if something happens to a family member or his travel companions, he could have coverage for this. Could he afford to pay for the trip again if he had to cancel?
Of course there is room in your Travel Rx bag,not just for your medications but for the phone numbers and important papers you need. A bit of pre -planning can help you relax and enjoy your vacation.
Here are some of sites that I used. Take a look at the FAQ’s. They answered many of my questions.
